My WFMU Archives
Lots of folks tell me they miss Trash, Twang & Thunder.
Miss no more.
Other Nutty Stuff:
Whole Foods
Sure, I'm packing some junk in the trunk, but it sure as hell
isn't from consuming toxic chemicals...I get enough of those from living in
the Garden State! There are certain things that have no place in my
cupboard, and Whole Foods (which started in New Orleans, natch) offers a
list of them
here. Read it and change your life by changing what you eat.
I Love Karl Rove
It hasn't been updated in ages, but it still rules.
The Rodeo Bar
My number one New York City hang. Always a good rock show
happening and never a cover. Margaritas that knock you on your ass served
out of a horse trailer. What more could a girl ask for?
Roy Orbison
wrapped in cling film.
No kidding. Every story ends up the same way. A riveting
read nonetheless.
Kinky Friedman
He toured with Dylan, he's been a guest at the White House
of both Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, he's written more than a dozen
mystery novels...and he ran for Texas Governor in 2006. He lost. People of
Texas, enjoy the Trans-Texas Corridor and free mandatory HPV shots for your
teenage daughters courtesy Rick Perry. You could've had Ray Wylie
Hubbard provide your state anthem, but nooooo.
Modern
Drunkard Magazine
Don't let the
'modern' fool ya; this mag is for old school drinkers and those who aspire
to be one. It's published in Denver. And I thought Denver was just for
cokeheads. Turns out lots of modern drunkards hang out there too.
Abita Beer
Hand-crafted in the piney woods 30 miles north of New
Orleans. I'd travel all the way to
Louisiana for a Purple Haze, but now I don't have to. Delta Grill on 9th
Avenue has it,
so does Oddfellows in Hoboken. Cheers.
The Museum of Burnt Food
I'm a really good cook, but I wasn't always. This site
reminds me of my hideous culinary past. Best part - the Massachusetts home
which houses the actual museum is temporarily closed "due to fire
damage."
Ponderosa Stomp
Once held at Mid-City Lanes (a.k.a. the Rock 'n' Bowl) in New
Orleans between Jazzfest weekends, now at House of Blues in the French
Quarter in autumn, it's a hoot 'n' hollerin' coupla nights of performances
by unsung heroes of rock, r&b, blues, rockabilly, swamp pop etc.
Doreen Cronin
I kan't stand kids, but I love children's books, especially hers. I keep
hoping if I read them I'll finally learn how to spell. In the interest of
full disclosure--she is my sister-in-law, which only means that marrying my
brother must've been worth entering the seventh circle of hell that is my
family.
Bob Piersanti
Pop artist, painter, illustrator, my Hoboken neighbor and a
helluva guy. He did the artwork for both of my WFMU
live music compilations.
